Enquin supports the HSE’s Dustbuster Campaign

Last October the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) ran a construction health inspection initiative focusing on lung diseases, particularly those caused by asbestos and dust. The campaign ran for the second time between 17th June and 12 July 2019. During this period, HSE Inspectors looked to ensure those involved in construction work were following key messages of ‘know the risks’ ‘plan your work’ and ‘use the right controls’.

In a bid to raise awareness about occupational lung disease in construction, and as a UKATA member, Enquin pledged support for the campaign by promoting to colleagues, clients and training delegates. Sara Blackmore, one of our UKATA registered trainers said

As a UKATA registered training provider, we are pleased to support this campaign and encourage a safe and healthy workplace for all our delegates. Using the selfie cards really helps to bring the message home on a very personal level for delegates.

Dust inhaled on a construction site could contain any number of hazards to workers leading to health problems. According to the latest statistics from the HSE, the number of deaths from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD), as a result of occupational exposure, is estimated at some 4,000 deaths per year in the UK. The number of deaths from asbestos related diseases including Mesothelioma was over 5,000 per year in 2016.
